“A great nonprofit doesn’t try to fix the problem, it simply reveals the solutions that were there all along.”
— Robert Egger

"This is not a charity of "us" giving food to "them". Part of the purpose is to provide people the means to affect change in their lives, and to break through the barriers of class, race, income, ethnicity and all the other artificial boundaries that create separation and drive us apart. More than simply serving food, it is a hands-on protest against the violence of poverty and hunger. Chronic hunger is as dangerous and damaging as any other form of torture. Poverty and homelessness shorten lives, drive people into addiction, and eat away at pride and self-reliance. Food is a catalyst. It rehumanizes us. And anyone can cook. People's Potluck is a place where those who have nowhere else to go can understand they have valuable contributions to make. And it exposes a fundamental problem in our food system - You can't look at all of the millions of tons of unused food that is disposed of every month in our city and not question a society that values wasteful consumption over common sense and the greater good. So let's eat."

“Hunger is so not about food — hunger is a symptom. Hunger is about wage, it’s about being in prison, it is about poverty and discrimination.”
— Robert Egger

OUR MISSION:

We serve as a catalyst for expanding community agriculture in local food production, creating awareness around sustainable and conscious consumption, improving access to healing living resources for residents, and reducing food waste, by organizing neighborhood feedings, hosting workshops and cooking classes, and sponsoring special events.

THE FOOD

We source our foods locally through donations from residents, businesses, farmer's market networks, and neighborhood gardens.  All the food we collect, prepare, and serve is plant-based and is offered to the community in the spirit of promoting environmental sustainability and utilizing conscious living as a guiding philosophy for meeting community needs.
